Old Fashioned Fun at the Georgia Renaissance Festival

Claudine Williams on June 3rd, 2008

I attended the Georgia Renaissance Festival on Sunday, and I had a great time. It cost almost $20 to get in the festival, which was located in Fairburn, Ga., (outside of Atlanta). I was afraid that it was going to rain. I had a good time watching the demonstrations and watching the actors and actresses interact with the crowd. There were performances, skits, demonstrations, and different acts, just about every hour. People were juggling, making glass, making candles, giving people henna tattoos, and face painting. The different events were posted on signs at the festival. Attendees came to the festival wearing costumes. I saw them in the parking lot. At first, I thought that they were festival employees. At times it was hard to tell the employees from the festival goers.

Of all of the performances, the washer women was my favorite act. They had the crowd rolling. This poor man in the audience got hauled up on stage; I guess that he volunteered and ended up being a part of the act. He did, however, have the chance to dump a tub of water on one of the washer women. I got a good laugh out of that.

My favorite part of the Renaissance Festival was when I went into the pavilion to see the king, queen and their court. Two guys fought it out to become my suitors. Now, if that’s how men were back in the day, I don’t think that medieval times were that bad at all! I ended up choosing both of the fellas. They both did such a good job! I thought that they guy who let me sit on his lap was an absolute dreamboat. I have a weakness for men with pretty eyes.

The food was pretty good too! Yep. I am still on my bikini challenge. I will be wearing a bikini this year, hopefully before summer ends. Anyway, I had my giant roasted turkey leg and a pretzel. I ordered lemonade, but thought that it was going to be freshly squeezed. They just game me Minute Maid lemonade in a bottle. I wasn’t thrilled with that, but drank it anyway. It didn’t rain at all. It was hot and sunny.

I’m glad that I went to the Renaissance Festival. It was a lot of fun, and I hope to go again next year.
